Geo-grid rank tracking is priced by the point. A 7 by 7 grid is 49 checks for a single keyword at a single location, and once you multiply that across a client roster and a weekly schedule the numbers get large fast. Most agencies find out they picked the wrong plan when the credits run out mid month, or when a tracking bill quietly outgrows the retainer it was supposed to support.

The calculator multiplies locations by keywords by grid cells to get points per scan, then multiplies by how often you scan to get points per month. It compares that total with the points included in your plan and divides the plan price across locations so you can see what tracking costs per client. Overage fees and mixed grid sizes are not modeled; run the tool once per group if your setups differ.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter how many locations you track and the average number of keywords per location.
  2. Pick the grid size and scan frequency you actually run. If you are comparing plans, keep the inputs fixed and change only the plan points and plan price.
  3. Read points per month against your plan allowance. If utilization is well above 100 percent, trim keywords or scan less often before upgrading; if it is far below, you may be paying for capacity you never use.

What the math assumes

  • Points per scan equal locations times keywords times grid cells. Every keyword is scanned at every cell for every location.
  • Scan frequencies are counted as 30 scans a month for daily, 4 for weekly, 2 for every two weeks and 1 for monthly.
  • Every location uses the same grid size and keyword count. If your setups differ, run the tool once per group and add the monthly totals.
  • Plan utilization compares monthly points with the plan allowance. Overage pricing is not modeled; a figure above 100 percent means you need a larger plan, fewer keywords or a smaller grid.
  • Cost per location divides the plan price evenly across locations, regardless of how many keywords each one tracks.

Frequently asked questions

What grid size should I use for a local business?

Larger grids show more of the service area but multiply cost. A dense urban storefront is usually well covered by a 5 by 5 grid with tight spacing, while a home services company with a wide service area often needs 7 by 7 or larger. Test one location before rolling a size out to every client.

Is daily scanning worth the points?

For most local businesses Map Pack positions do not move meaningfully from one day to the next, so weekly scans catch the trend at a fraction of the cost. Daily scanning earns its keep during a specific campaign, right after a profile change, or when you are diagnosing a sudden drop.

My tracker charges per keyword, not per grid point. Can I still use this?

Yes. Ignore the plan fields and use points per month as a like-for-like measure of how much work each tool does for the money, which makes comparing a per-keyword plan with a per-point plan much easier.
