Estimates only. Assumptions are listed below, and you can change every input.

A 4.3 star rating next to a competitor at 4.7 costs clicks in the Map Pack, and owners often ask how many reviews it would take to catch up. The honest answer depends on how many reviews you already have, because a listing with 400 reviews moves much more slowly than one with 40. Guessing leads to review campaigns that stop too early or targets that were never reachable in the first place.

The calculator treats your rating as a simple average, then solves for the number of new reviews, at the average star rating you expect them to carry, that brings the mean up to your target. It divides that count by your current monthly review pace to estimate a timeline, and by your deadline to show the pace you would need. Google has not published its exact rating formula, so treat the result as a close estimate rather than a promise.

How to use this tool

  1. Copy your review count and star rating from your Business Profile, then set the rating you want to reach.
  2. Enter a realistic average for new reviews and the number of reviews you have been getting per month.
  3. Read how many reviews you need and how long that takes at your current pace. If the verdict says you are too slow, the reviews per month figure is the pace your review request process has to hit.

What the math assumes

  • The displayed rating is treated as a simple arithmetic mean of all reviews. Google has not published its exact formula and may weight reviews differently, so the result is an estimate.
  • Your current rating is the rounded one-decimal number Google shows, so the true average may sit up to 0.05 stars above or below it. That can shift the answer by a few reviews either way.
  • The target counts as reached when the true average meets it, not when the rounded display first shows it, which makes the estimate slightly conservative.
  • New reviews arrive at the average star rating you enter, and no existing reviews are removed or filtered in the meantime.
  • Your review pace stays constant. Months and reviews per month are straight division and do not account for Google holding or removing some reviews.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the calculator say my target is not reachable?

If the average rating of your new reviews is at or below the target, the overall mean can never climb past it no matter how many reviews come in. Either the new reviews need to average higher or the target needs to come down.

Can I assume all new reviews will be 5 stars?

It is safer not to. Even businesses with a strong review process see a mix of 4 and 5 star ratings, so plan on an average somewhere between 4.7 and 4.9 and check the estimate again after a month of real results.

Would it be faster to get bad reviews removed?

You can only flag reviews that break Google policy, and removal is neither quick nor guaranteed. Bringing in new reviews from real customers is the lever you control, which is why this tool focuses on it.
